Search of alternative fuels continue to be made as continued depletion of petroleum reserves. In fact, scientists at the company's research and development of Laser Power Systems has been developing fuel from nuclear power to the car.
As reported by Autoblog, Monday, September 5, 2011, fuel system uses a turbine-driven electric generators thorium-based laser (light radioactive metal with atomic weight 90). The principle works is very simple. Thorium is used to generate heat that produces steam in a closed cycle.
Steam it and then move the generators. Because it only requires a thin sheet of aluminum foil to prevent radiation leaks, so the mini-reactors are very safe to use as a vehicle power.
According to its inventor, Charles Stevens, per gram of thorium has an energy equivalent to 28,390 liters of gasoline. With 8 grams of thorium can run the average car for 5,000 hours, equivalent to 480,000 km mileage over the lifetime of the ideal or the vehicle itself.
Previously, the Cadillac had introduced a thorium-powered concept car at the Chicago Auto Show 2009 and designed by LORUS Kulesus.
The vehicle does not have nuclear power reactors of Thorium which really works. However, General Motors has been thinking about an interesting idea to create and show off this concept car.
